Fall Family Fun

Fall Family Fun - SlideshowI love the Fall Season!  I love the Fall Season, because it’s when the leaves start to change colors, there is a cool chill in the air, and it’s a time when my family and I do fun holiday activities and spend quality time together.

Spending quality time together helps us to develop our bonds with one another and creates lifetime memories. Every year, we go to the Pumpkin Patch!  It is so much fun going out to the pumpkin patch and walking through pumpkin vines in search for the “perfect” pumpkin.  We either take the tractor out to the field or walk and push the wheelbarrow – sometimes with kids inside the wheelbarrow.

We usually end up with 1 pumpkin per person in our family (that’s 5 pumpkins now).  It’s a lot of fun and a great photo/scrapbooking opportunity! Some time before Halloween, we carve pumpkins as a family.  My husband is VERY good at carving pumpkins.  Last year, he found a pattern for Darth Vader and our boys thought it was awesome, as did I.  It’s always a lot of fun and we get a chance to express our creative energies!  Our boys mainly watch at this age, but love the process and the end results.

Another family fun activity is decorating Halloween cookies.  I have all sorts of Halloween cookie cutters, including pumpkins, bats, and ghosts.  Our boys love to choose the colored sprinkles and frost the cookies, decorating them. They love to eat the cookies once their creations are finished.  However, there have been times where they loved their creation so much that they didn’t want to eat them!

Before Halloween, we like to attend our city’s Trick-or-Treating activity.  There is usually a specific area (whether the main road in town or a mall), where vendors hand out Halloween treats and candy to the kids. The kids walk from store to store and the vendors get to advertise to the parents.  It is a lot of fun…and good exercise! On Halloween, we usually attend a trunk-or-treat activity.  At a trunk-or-treat activity, family and friends park their cars in a parking lot (a lot of times at a church) and decorate their trunks. The kids then walk from trunk to trunk collecting Halloween goodies and candies, or trunk-or-treating. I like trunk-or-treating, because I usually know many of the people there and feel more comfortable with my kids accepting candy from people I know, rather than taking candy from complete strangers.

Afterwards, we take the kids trick-or-treating at a few friends’ and neighbors’ homes just so they can see our boys in their costumes.

There are so many ways you can enjoy the Fall Season with your family.  I love the Fall Season and look forward to spending time with my family and having fun!
